Melbourne Renegades beat Hobart Hurricanes via last-ball no-ball decision

A wicketkeeping error by Lizelle Lee denied the Hurricanes a Super Over during the Women's Big Bash League match at Bellerive Oval.

The Melbourne Renegades secured a four-wicket victory against the Hobart Hurricanes in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) on Wednesday. According to the Times of India, a rare wicketkeeping infringement on the final delivery prevented the Hurricanes from forcing a Super Over at Bellerive Oval.

Chasing 155, the Renegades required one run from the final ball with scores tied at 154. After Deandra Dottin missed the delivery from Nicola Carey, wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee collected the ball. While a Super Over seemed likely, the third umpire ruled that Lee had collected the ball in front of the stumps, resulting in a no-ball.

The Hurricanes had previously faced an over-rate penalty, which restricted them to having just two fielders outside the 30-yard circle for the final three deliveries of the over. This restriction allowed Dottin to hit a boundary on the penultimate ball to level the scores.

Earlier, the Hurricanes posted 154/7, led by captain Nicola Carey, who scored 62 off 43 balls. Chinelle Henry contributed 36 off 18 balls before leaving the field with a suspected hip injury. Renegades captain Sophie Molineux took 4/22, reaching 101 career WBBL wickets.

The Renegades' chase was bolstered by Hayley Matthews, who scored 59 off 44 balls, and Courtney Webb, who made 29 off 25 balls. However, the visitors lost five wickets for 37 runs after reaching 101.

This win marks the first victory for the Renegades in the WBBL|12 campaign. The Hurricanes remain at the bottom of the standings without a win after three matches.
