Surat authorities seize 398 kg of low-fat paneer during food safety drive

The Surat Municipal Corporation inspected sweet shops and collected 31 samples ahead of the Diwali festive season.

The Surat Municipal Corporation intensified food safety inspections across the city on Tuesday, seizing 398 kg of low-fat paneer. According to Urban Acres, the enforcement action was part of checks on food establishments ahead of Diwali.

The civic body's food safety department inspected 16 sweet shops and collected 31 samples of sweets and desserts for laboratory examination. These routine checks aim to prevent the sale of unsafe or substandard food as demand for festive delicacies rises.

A separate joint inspection by the food safety department and police took place on Monday at Ms Amrut Milk and Milk Products on New Bamroli Road, near Tirupati Circle. Officials identified hygiene-related deficiencies at the premises and issued notices.

The 398 kg of seized paneer is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.11 lakh. Officials have sent the paneer samples to a laboratory for testing.

The results of the laboratory tests are expected within the next couple of days. Further proceedings will be initiated based on the findings and whether the establishments meet food safety and hygiene requirements.
