PV Sindhu returns to world top six after four years

The two-time Olympic medallist secured her highest world ranking since December 2022 following a successful BWF World Tour season.

Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has climbed to world No. 6 in the latest women's singles rankings, according to the Times of India. This is her highest position since December 2022.

The 31-year-old secured the ranking after winning the Hylo Open in Germany on Sunday, where she defeated Denmark's Line Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14. This was her second BWF World Tour title this season, following her win at the Japan Open in July.

Sindhu's season also included a runner-up finish at the French Open against world No. 1 An Se Young, and semifinal appearances at the Malaysia Open and Australian Open.

The shuttler said she is pleased with the ranking climb and noted that focusing on winning tournaments naturally leads to an improved position. She added that managing her physical condition is essential for her continued competition.

Sindhu is currently fifth in the HSBC Race to Finals rankings. She has secured a place at the BWF World Tour Finals, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, from December 9 to 13.
