Ramayana aims for Rs 160 crore global opening day gross

Nitesh Tiwari's film is projected to achieve a massive start despite trailing major record holders.

Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is projected to earn a global gross of Rs 160 crore on its opening day, according to reports from Hindustan Times and The Indian Express. The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, is set for a wide release on Thursday, November 5.

Advance bookings in India have reached Rs 96.75 crore, according to Sacnilk, with the opening day accounting for approximately Rs 39.40 crore. The Hindi version is leading the domestic advance bookings, contributing 82 per cent of the total. Overseas, the film has collected $5.6 million in advance bookings, including $1.5 million for paid previews in North America.

The production, a collaboration between Prime Focus Studios, DNEG, and Monster Mind Creations, is estimated to have cost Rs 2,000 crore. Movie business analyst Ramesh Bala stated that the film may need worldwide gross collections of Rs 3,000-4,000 crore to recover the estimated Rs 1,500-crore shortfall after taxes and distributor cuts.

While the film is expected to surpass the openings of Adipurush, Jawan, and Animal, it is projected to trail record holders such as Pushpa 2, RRR, and Baahubali 2. T-Series has reportedly purchased the music rights for Rs 75 crore, covering both parts of the planned two-part epic.

The film is scheduled to stream on JioHotstar on a pay-per-view basis following its theatrical window. The first part is scheduled for release on November 5, with the second part planned for Diwali 2028, according to Hindustan Times.
