Virat Kohli celebrates catch with bow-and-arrow gesture in Auckland ODI

The former India captain used a festive celebration after taking a one-handed catch at second slip against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli performed a bow-and-arrow celebration after taking a one-handed catch during the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. The former India captain was stationed at second slip when Nathan Smith edged a delivery from Anshul Kamboj, prompting Kohli to dive to his right to grab the ball just inches above the ground.

According to reports from India Today and India TV, Kohli's gesture of pretending to draw a bow and release an arrow coincided with the approaching Diwali festival. He also performed a 'you can't see me' hand gesture inspired by professional wrestler John Cena.

The Indian bowling attack dominated the New Zealand innings, which ended at 185 runs. Anshul Kamboj and Arshdeep Singh took two wickets each, while Gurnoor Brar claimed three wickets. Arshdeep Singh finished the match with four wickets, and Kamboj conceded 22 runs in 10 overs.

New Zealand's Tim Seifert was the top scorer with 38 runs, while Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips scored 28 and 30 runs respectively. Blair Tickner contributed 34 runs off 23 balls to help the hosts reach their total.

In India's innings, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a six-ball duck, but Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli stabilised the batting. Rohit Sharma also contributed to a run-out of Daryl Mitchell with sharp reflexes on the field.
