Producer Namit Malhotra explains why new Ramayana film is being made
The upcoming production aims to present the mythological epic on a scale comparable to Hollywood spectacles like Avatar or Avengers.
Producer Namit Malhotra has addressed why a new film based on the Ramayana is being produced despite previous depictions of the story. According to a News18 report, Malhotra intends to present a version of the epic that has not been seen before.
The film features Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in the roles of Ram, Sita, and Ravana, respectively. Malhotra told PTI that no television show, street play, or Ram Leela has shown the story with the scale and spectacle they are creating.
Malhotra compared the project to Hollywood spectacles such as Spider-Man, The Odyssey, or Avengers. He stated that the production aims to narrow the gap between Indian films and Hollywood spectacles, asserting that India can produce something as good or bigger.
The project is backed by Prime Focus Studios in association with the visual effects studio DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, which is owned by actor Yash.
The Ramayana film is being produced in two parts. The first installment is scheduled to be released in theatres on November 5, 2026.
