Tamil Nadu allows six daily shows for new Tamil films
Chief Minister Vijay has permitted theatres to increase daily screenings to six for the first week of a film's release.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has ordered that theatres across the state may screen six shows daily for new Tamil film releases. According to a government press release reported by ANI, this permission applies for the first seven days following a film's release.
The new schedule allows screenings to begin at 6 am and continue until 2.30 am the following day. This six-show limit also applies to Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival days, according to Urban Acres.
The decision follows requests from the Tamil Film Producers Council, the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association, and the Tamil Film Active Producers Associations. These industry groups sought more shows to meet demand during opening weeks.
Under Rule 14-A of the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, theatres are generally permitted four shows per day. While the state previously allowed five shows during the first week of a release and on holidays, the new order raises that limit to six.
The government stated it intends to propose amendments to the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules to formalise this change. Until the amendment process is complete, theatres must follow existing licensing frameworks and formal instructions.
