DRDO successfully tests Pralay quasi-ballistic missile off Odisha coast

The successful flight test of the indigenously developed missile system makes its induction into the armed forces imminent.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on November 5, according to Outlook and Moneycontrol.

The test, which took place at approximately 11:10 am, was part of user evaluation trials. Data from various range instruments at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, confirmed that all stipulated test objectives were met.

The Pralay is a two-stage, solid-fuelled missile with a range spanning 150 to 500 km. It is capable of carrying various conventional warheads weighing between 350 kg and 1,000 kg, including runway-denial and penetration-cum-blast types.

Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories, developed the missile, while Bharat Dynamics Limited served as a development-cum-production partner for manufacturing the system. The Defence Ministry stated that the induction of the missile system is now imminent.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Defence Forces, and industry partners, noting that the advanced technology would strengthen military operational preparedness against emerging threats. He also described the trial as a significant milestone for indigenous defence capabilities.

DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh and the Defence Secretary also extended their congratulations to the teams involved in the successful flight-test.
