Gujarat Youth Congress suspends 49 office-bearers for missing Delhi rally

The suspensions follow the failure of leaders to attend the INDIA bloc event at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

The Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress has suspended 49 office-bearers for failing to attend the INDIA bloc rally held at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on November 1, according to reports by Times Now and ThePrint.

The disciplinary action, which was implemented with immediate effect, targets 18 general secretaries, seven state secretaries, and 24 presidents representing various city and district units.

Among those facing suspension are district presidents from Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Mehsana, Patan, and Panchmahal, as well as city and district heads from Rajkot and Vadodara.

The New Indian Express reported that the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) had made attendance mandatory and had reportedly arranged travel for the event, which demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

A Gujarat Congress leader stated that an in-house digital application used to monitor attendance confirmed the absence of these 49 officials despite instructions to participate.

Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress president Pravinsinh Vanol said the leadership would issue forms seeking explanations for the absences and noted that those showing active organisational engagement may be reinstated.
