Gujarat Congress demands uniform PNG pricing across the state

The party claims households in different cities are paying different rates for piped natural gas supplied by various companies.

The Gujarat Congress has demanded a "one state, one gas price" policy, alleging that piped natural gas (PNG) rates vary significantly between cities. According to a report by Urban Acres, the party is calling for uniform measurement standards across the state.

The Congress cited figures claiming Adani Gas customers in Ahmedabad pay ₹1,473, while those in Surendranagar pay ₹1,347. The party stated this ₹126 difference means Ahmedabad households pay more for the same utility from the same provider.

The party also compared rates from Gujarat Gas, a state-owned company, alleging its customers in Rajasthan receive gas at a rate ₹56 lower than the ₹1,377 charged in Gujarat. Sabarmati Gas was cited as charging ₹1,439.

The Congress noted that different suppliers use different measurement systems. It said Adani Gas, Gujarat Gas, and Sabarmati Gas use metric million British thermal units (MMBtu), while Vadodara Gas Company and IRM use square cubic metres.

The party argued these varying methods make it difficult for consumers to compare costs. The Congress is pressing for a common pricing and measurement framework for all PNG suppliers in Gujarat.
