Congress questions higher piped gas prices in Gujarat compared to Rajasthan

The Gujarat Congress party has alleged that domestic cooking gas costs more for consumers in Gujarat than in neighbouring Rajasthan.

The Gujarat Congress on Wednesday questioned the difference in piped natural gas (PNG) prices between Gujarat and Rajasthan, according to The Times of India.

Spokesperson Parthivrajsinh Kathavadia held a news conference at the GPCC headquarters to allege that consumers in Gujarat pay more for domestic cooking gas than those in Rajasthan, despite using the same suppliers.

Kathavadia stated that Adani Gas charges Ahmedabad consumers Rs 1,473.90 per million British thermal units (MMBTU), while customers in Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Bhilwara in Rajasthan pay Rs 1,258.88 per MMBTU. He noted this is a difference of nearly Rs 215.

He further claimed that Gujarat Energy, previously called Gujarat Gas, charges its Gujarat customers Rs 1,377.04 per MMBTU compared to Rs 1,321 per MMBTU for Rajasthan customers, a difference of Rs 56 per MMBTU.

Kathavadia also pointed to price variations between different cities and towns within Gujarat. He asked why Gujarat consumers are paying more than those in Rajasthan.

The spokesperson demanded that the state government step in and engage with gas distribution companies to achieve consistent pricing across all cities.
