Four minors rescued in Guwahati after being lured by social media jobs
Two youths from Lakhimpur have been arrested following the rescue of four children from Behali in Assam's Biswanath district.
Police in Guwahati rescued four minors from Behali on Wednesday after they were allegedly promised employment through social media, according to The Assam Tribune.
The group, consisting of three girls and one boy, had left their homes after being contacted online. The children were traced and found by a police team led by SI Garima Pegu.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asif Ahmed said that Adam Tani and Bikash Borang, both from Lakhimpur, were arrested in connection with the case.
The investigation suggests the minors were offered caretaker positions at various locations through a purported healthcare NGO. Ahmed noted that the children are school-going and lack the training required for such roles.
The police are currently investigating if the incident is a human trafficking case and are looking into the nature of the employment offers.
SSP Ahmed urged parents and young people to be cautious of social media job offers and stated that the police will launch an awareness campaign on the issue.
