Karnataka to train 5,000 government school teachers in AI
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced an initiative to provide artificial intelligence literacy to teachers across the state.
The Karnataka government aims to provide Basic Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy training to 5,000 government school teachers, according to The Hindu. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the initiative during the Namma Shaale, Namma Javabdari programme.
The programme is an initiative by the Head Held High Foundation and will run for 12 months between January and December 2027. It will be carried out alongside the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka.
The training is designed for teachers without previous AI knowledge and will cover AI fundamentals, tool usage, and effective prompting. It also includes lessons on using AI for teaching, lesson preparation, and productivity.
A major part of the curriculum will focus on responsible AI use, such as identifying misinformation, understanding biases, and protecting student data privacy. The goal is to ensure technology is used safely and meaningfully in classrooms.
Separately, the state is exploring a model to link 2,000 government schools with private institutions in phases. The plan starts with 1,000 schools and encourages private managements to share resources like teachers, buses, and laboratory equipment to improve rural education quality.
