University of Calicut to update UG and PG courses with AI

The university plans to include computing knowledge in its academic programmes to address global job market shifts and student migration.

The University of Calicut is planning to revise its undergraduate and postgraduate courses to include artificial intelligence and basic computing knowledge, according to The Hindu.

Vice-Chancellor P. Raveendran stated during an expert committee meeting on Thursday that these reforms will use existing university infrastructure and will not increase the workload for teachers.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the changes will only be implemented after receiving approval from the academic council and the Syndicate.

The expert committee, led by former professor K. George Thomas, said the revision will follow regulations from the Kerala State Higher Education Council, the University Grants Commission, the All-India Council for Technical Education, and the National Council for Teacher Education.

Pro Vice-Chancellor P. Rasheed Ahammed said the initiative is part of expanding new-generation academic programmes and noted that Massive Open Online Courses will be offered in English and Malayalam.

A repository of new courses prepared by the committee is expected to be published by next month so that affiliated colleges can select suitable subjects.
