Navi Mumbai airport to receive 14 international routes from March 2027
The shift comes as Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport prepares for phased redevelopment of Terminal 1.
Navi Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) is likely to receive flights on 14 international routes starting March 28, 2027, according to a report by Urban Acres citing Mid-Day and PTI.
The proposed arrangement follows recommendations from foreign airlines operating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to shift services to Navi Mumbai on a destination basis. MIAL Chief Airport Officer Vishnu Mohan Jha wrote to the civil aviation secretary regarding the recommendation made to Adani Airport Holdings Ltd.
The 14 affected destinations include Bahrain, Dammam, Dhaka, Doha, Fujairah, Jakarta, Jeddah, Kathmandu, Kuwait City, Madinah, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh and Sharjah. Under the plan, flights from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to these locations would operate from a single airport to provide seamless connections and reduce passenger inconvenience.
The transfer coincides with the planned demolition of CSMIA's Terminal 1 in April 2027. The redevelopment of the terminal, which has been delayed for more than nine years, is expected to increase its capacity to 20 million passengers per annum. Joint releases by airlines and Adani Airport Holdings place the completion of the redevelopment in 2030.
IndiGo announced on October 25 that it would progressively shift 12 daily international departures to Navi Mumbai between February and July 2027. Akasa Air said its Mumbai–Jeddah service will operate from the new airport from December 2026, while Air India Express is expected to begin four daily domestic flights there in December 2026.
