Manipur law and order crisis consumes half my time, says Singh

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that the state's security issues have left limited time for development work since he took office.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on November 5, 2026, that the state's law and order crisis has occupied 50 per cent of his time since he assumed office. According to The News Mill, Singh spoke about this while inaugurating the INNOTECH FEST 2.0 at the Manipur Science Centre in Takyelpat, Imphal.

Singh said he spends nearly eight hours a day considering ways to address the problems in the state. He noted that this situation has left limited time for development work.

The two-day festival was organised by the state's Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Manipur Innovation Foundation. Singh stated that science and technology are important for nation-building and that young people must participate to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Regarding agriculture, the Chief Minister said the government has taken steps to ensure the timely distribution of subsidised urea. He said he instructed agriculture department officers to resist political pressure and ensure fertilisers reach genuine beneficiaries.

Singh claimed the government has received no complaints from farmers regarding the non-availability or non-distribution of subsidised urea this year. He added that the distribution of rabi crop seeds began in October this year, rather than in February as seen in previous years.

The Chief Minister also urged government departments to implement projects funded by the Centre efficiently and to submit utilisation certificates on time.
