Mohanlal named brand ambassador for Kerala KATHIR agriculture project

The initiative aims to build farming interest among students through the establishment of agricultural clubs in schools.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been appointed the brand ambassador for the Keralam Agriculture Department’s KATHIR project, according to ANI and The News Mill. The programme, run alongside the General Education Department, intends to foster agricultural interest and awareness among students.

In the initial stage, KATHIR agricultural clubs will be set up in 500 schools throughout the state. The Agriculture Department plans to extend these clubs to every school in Kerala by the next academic year.

Mohanlal, who stated that he grows vegetables near his home, said he hopes the project evolves into a significant movement. He encouraged children to move away from digital screens to connect with the soil and welcomed the decision to provide weightage marks to students participating in farming activities.

The actor also pledged support for the initiative through the Vismaya Shanti Foundation, which operates in memory of his parents. He remarked that change must start with children and urged them to begin by planting at least one seed.

Agriculture Minister Adv. T. Siddique said the actor's involvement would represent a major step forward for the project.

To ensure smooth implementation, nodal officers will be appointed, and a two-day training session for officials has already been finished in Thiruvananthapuram.
