Police seize over Rs 1 crore cash from TMC MLA's office in Diamond Harbour

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the seizure from Magrahat Paschim MLA Samim Ahamed's office is only the tip of the iceberg.

Police seized Rs 1,02,79,000 in cash from the office of Magrahat Paschim MLA Samim Ahamed in the Sarisha area of Diamond Harbour on Wednesday, according to The Indian Express and ThePrint.

The raid in the South 24 Parganas district took place following the interrogation of Sumit Roy, an arrested aide of Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee. Roy is currently in police custody in connection with alleged financial irregularities.

Diamond Harbour Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Majumdar confirmed the seizure at a press conference. Police are examining the source of the money and transaction records, though the owner and purpose of the cash have not been ascertained.

Ahamed is part of a rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) camp led by Ritabrata Banerjee. The MLA did not respond to queries regarding the seizure.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee siphoned off state revenue. He claimed the money meant for the state exchequer was diverted to TMC offices and siphoned abroad.

Adhikari stated that the seizure was merely the tip of the iceberg and alleged that revenue has been siphoned off in West Bengal. He further claimed that money is being invested in several companies.
