Jharkhand: CM Hemant Soren seeks study before HPV vaccination implementation
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed officials to conduct a state-wide survey and form an expert committee regarding cervical cancer prevention.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has stated that a comprehensive study is required before the state implements the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination against cervical cancer, according to ThePrint.
During a meeting with health officials on Wednesday, Soren said that while protecting adolescent girls is a priority, a decision on the vaccination will only be made after an in-depth study. He directed officials to conduct a state-wide survey to gather data on the number of people affected, their age groups, disease stages, and active cases.
The Chief Minister also instructed the health department to form a committee of experts. This committee is expected to consult with cancer specialists and directors of reputed medical institutions.
Soren emphasised the need to strengthen regular screening systems for early detection. He said the government must ensure that essential diagnostic tools are easier to find and use at community health centres and district hospitals.
In Jharkhand, the estimated incidence of cervical cancer is 13 cases per 100,000 population. Soren noted that the disease is a serious health challenge and the government will take serious measures for its control.
