Radhika Apte questions if marriage affects women's careers

The actor argues that work culture expecting constant availability is the real issue rather than marriage or motherhood.

Actor Radhika Apte has questioned whether marriage and children are the primary reasons women face challenges in their careers, according to a Times of India report. Speaking to Kamiya Jani on Curly Tales, Apte suggested that the focus should instead be on workplace culture.

Apte stated that the problem lies in a professional environment that expects employees to be available at all hours. She argued that every employee possesses a personal life that requires respect and time, regardless of their marital or parental status.

The actor noted that single women also require time for their own interests, such as reading, seeing friends, or resting. She said that having a life outside of work is not a special concession meant only for those with caregiving responsibilities.

Apte also criticised the expectation for staff to be reachable during non-working hours. She remarked that completing a job does not give an employer unlimited access to an individual's time, noting that people should not be expected to answer calls late at night or over the weekend.

She concluded that the current culture of expecting people to work 24-7, 365 days a year is the core problem, rather than marriage or parenthood.
