Farhad Samji reportedly writing screenplay for Munna Bhai 3

Writer Farhad Samji is penning the script for the third instalment of the franchise directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

Writer Farhad Samji is reportedly working on the screenplay for the third film in the Munna Bhai franchise, according to reports from Times of India and Moneycontrol. The project, which is currently in the pre-production phase, will be directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

The film is slated to begin production in 2027. While details regarding the storyline and casting have not been disclosed, Samji is expected to complete the script soon.

Samji's history with the franchise dates back to the first film, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., released in 2003. He wrote the opening refrain for the song 'M Bole Toh' after being contacted by composer Anu Malik for a music session with Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

At the time of the first film, Shah Rukh Khan was being considered for the lead role before Sanjay Dutt took on the character. Samji's involvement with the original song required balancing the character's tapori language with the potential actor's image.

Hirani has noted that the project is in development and that he would only proceed with a sequel if he was satisfied with the script. He brought Samji on board to provide a fresh voice for the franchise.

The previous films in the series include Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and the 2006 sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which featured Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi.
