Eva Longoria says impact does not depend on wealth after Bezos award
The actress received a $50 million philanthropic award from Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos alongside retired admiral Bill McRaven.
Actress Eva Longoria and retired US Navy admiral Bill McRaven were selected as recipients of the Bezos Courage and Civility Award in 2024, according to the Times of India.
The initiative, established by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, awarded $50 million to each recipient, totaling a $100 million philanthropic commitment.
Longoria said the award allows the Eva Longoria Foundation to create long-term impact through transformative giving, specifically supporting Latina entrepreneurs and expanding access to education.
The actress also noted that while the award provides resources, meaningful contributions do not necessarily require large bank accounts, as impact does not come from how much money a person has.
McRaven intends to use his share of the funds for education and support services for military personnel and their families, including mental health assistance and programmes for children of deceased veterans.
Longoria established her foundation in 2012 to improve educational and entrepreneurial opportunities for Latinas in the United States.
