Ramayana Part 2 scheduled for Diwali 2028 release
Producer Namit Malhotra said the second instalment's release has been moved from 2027 to allow more production time.
The second part of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana retelling will arrive in theatres during Diwali 2028, according to a report by India Today. Producer Namit Malhotra confirmed the new release date, which is one year later than the original 2027 schedule.
Malhotra stated that the extra year is needed to do justice to a film of this size and to avoid a rush job. He said the team wants to deliver the finale in a grand way, similar to the first part.
While the makers have settled on a two-part format, Malhotra has not ruled out the possibility of turning the epic into a trilogy. He said the audience's response to the first film will play a major role in deciding if there is more to explore.
The first film, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, was released worldwide on November 5, 2026, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. It features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
The production, which has a reported budget of Rs 2,000 crore, was produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash. The music is by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.
