Two dead as three-storey building collapses in Delhi's Chawri Bazaar

Rescue operations are currently underway in Old Delhi after an under-construction structure fell in Gali Sitara on Thursday morning.

At least two people died and several others are feared trapped under debris after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Old Delhi's Chawri Bazaar on Thursday morning, according to reports by Times Now and WION.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 am in Gali Sitara, located near the Chawri Bazaar Metro station.

Emergency responders have arrived at the site, including at least six fire tenders and specialised rescue vehicles, to search for those potentially stuck inside the structure.

This collapse follows a recent incident in Milan Garden, northeast Delhi, where two men died when roof slabs gave way during construction work.

On X, Bharadwaj alleged that despite safety audits ordered by the government and MCD, buildings continue to collapse because multiple departments have collected bribes.

Further information regarding the total number of casualties and the reason for the collapse is currently awaited.
