Two dead as three-storey building collapses in Delhi's Chawri Bazaar

Rescue operations are underway in Old Delhi after an under-construction building collapsed on Thursday morning, leaving several people feared trapped.

Two people were killed and one person was injured after a portion of a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Chawri Bazaar area of Old Delhi on Thursday morning, according to reports by Times Now, Rediff and Bhaskar English.

The incident occurred around 9:50 am in Gali Sitara, near the Chawri Bazaar Metro Station. Several others are feared trapped under the debris.

Six fire department units, including water tenders and rescue vehicles, were rushed to the site. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also joined the search and rescue operation to look for people trapped under the structure.

Station Officer DK Rai informed the fire department at approximately 10:15 am that the building had collapsed and requested additional personnel and a senior officer. Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Rajesh Shukla and Station Officer Bhupender Sharma are overseeing the operation.

This incident follows several other building collapses in Delhi this year. Bhaskar English reported that at least 21 people have been killed in five major building collapse incidents across the city so far this year.
