Thiruvananthapuram airport handles record 444 MT domestic cargo in October

The monthly domestic cargo volume at the airport rose by 9.4 per cent compared to the previous record set in June 2026.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport processed a record 444 metric tonnes (MT) of domestic cargo during October, according to The Hindu.

This figure represents a 9.4 per cent rise from the previous high of 406 MT achieved in June 2026. The airport handled an additional 38 MT during the month.

Mobile phones arriving from Delhi were a primary contributor to the volume. The airport also saw a growth of over 145 per cent in the movement of optical lenses from Mumbai.

Courier and consolidated cargo operations have gained momentum, with some agencies now starting outbound consolidated cargo directly from Thiruvananthapuram instead of routing through Kochi. Post Office Mail also saw growth in both inbound and outbound movements.

Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad were the top five domestic destinations and origin markets. Airport authorities said the trend is expected to continue due to growing demand and logistics movements.

The commencement of EXIM operations at Vizhinjam International Seaport is expected to create new opportunities and strengthen multimodal cargo connectivity in the region.
