Magda Linette reaches Chennai Open quarterfinals after defeating Moyuka Uchijima

The Polish player secured a victory over Japan's Moyuka Uchijima to end a run of seven first-round exits in five months.

Polish tennis player Magda Linette moved into the quarterfinals of the WTA Chennai Open on Thursday after defeating Japan's Moyuka Uchijima 7-6(5), 6-0, according to Sportstar.

Linette, 34, has experienced seven first-round exits over the last five months. She noted that a combination of tough draws and a loss of self-confidence caused her performance to spiral.

The player said she decided to keep working through the difficult phase rather than panicking or finding excuses despite facing criticism. Linette added that the ups and downs are necessary in sports.

Linette mentioned that she is starting to get her groove back in Chennai, which brings back good memories from her 2022 runner-up finish at the tournament.

She currently works with Polish consultant Agnieszka Radwanska for 10-12 weeks a year. Linette is scheduled to play Mai Hontama in the quarterfinals on Friday.
