Gujarat Energy to procure 4 million tonnes of LNG from Adnoc

The ten-year sales and purchase agreement with the Abu Dhabi firm will begin in 2028 using XRG's international gas portfolio.

Gujarat Energy signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) on Friday to acquire up to 4 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to Mint, the supplies will be sourced from the international gas portfolio of XRG, which is Adnoc's international investment company.

The contract spans ten years and is scheduled to commence in 2028. This deal represents the fifth LNG supply agreement Adnoc has entered into within India and marks the first time molecules from XRG's international portfolio have been sold.

Avantika Singh Aulakh, managing director of Gujarat Energy Ltd (GEL), said natural gas is vital for India's transition to cleaner energy by supporting industrial efficiency, safer cooking fuel, and eco-friendly transport. She noted that GEL operates a city gas network across 44 districts in six states.

Rashid Al Mazrouei, chief marketing and origination officer (LNG) at Adnoc, stated that the pact strengthens the company's energy partnership with India. He added that the agreement connects their international portfolio with customers in key markets through an integrated marketing and trading platform.

The Adnoc platform, launched in the Abu Dhabi Global Market in July 2026, aims to reach 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG beyond 2030. The company has previously signed supply agreements with INPEX in Japan and Gulf Group in Thailand.
