Nepal PM Balendra Shah to visit India from November 22
The three-day official trip marks the first bilateral foreign visit for the Prime Minister since he assumed office in March.
Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah will embark on a three-day official visit to India starting November 22, according to the Indian Express. This marks his first bilateral trip since taking office in March.
The announcement followed a meeting in Kathmandu between Shah and visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Thursday. Misri conveyed an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Shah, who expressed interest in a "result-oriented" visit.
During his two-day visit to Kathmandu, Misri met with several Nepalese officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Shisir Khanal, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, and Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. The discussions covered bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, transit, aviation, and water resources.
The Indian Foreign Secretary also held talks with Nepal's Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal and Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha. Misri also interacted with members of the India-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Shah thanked Prime Minister Modi and India for being the first to respond when Nepal faced destructive flash floods in August. Misri noted that India has already extended assistance and remains ready to consider further requests for reconstruction and rehabilitation projects.
A joint statement noted that the Foreign Secretary highlighted the progress in diverse areas of bilateral cooperation and discussed possible outcomes for the upcoming visit.
