Karnataka Cabinet approves 30-year lease of four acres to Bengaluru Turf Club
The government will reclaim the remaining property currently held by the club for its own development purposes.
The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday approved a 30-year lease of four acres of land in High Grounds to the Bengaluru Turf Club (BTC), according to reports by The New Indian Express and The Hindu.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister Eshwar Khandre stated that the lease was approved following a revision of the existing agreement. The four-acre parcel includes the club's current facilities and a heritage building belonging to the Archaeological Department.
While the BTC had requested six acres to maintain its club activities and off-course betting centre, the government decided to lease only four acres. The state will take back the rest of the land currently held by the club to develop it.
The racing operations of the BTC are expected to move to the Kunigal Stud Farm. Although the club agreed to this move, it has requested more time to relocate the activities.
Minister Khandre said the government will examine the matter and make a final decision after receiving a detailed report. He also noted that the winter session at Belagavi, originally set for November 30 to December 11, has been rescheduled to begin on December 2.
