Karnataka increases dearness allowance for employees and pensioners to 18 per cent
The state government has raised the allowance from 15.75 per cent with retrospective effect from July 1, 2026.
The Karnataka government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state employees, pensioners, and family pensioners from 15.75 per cent to 18 per cent of basic pay. According to reports by ThePrint, The New Indian Express, and Deccan Herald, the hike is applicable retrospectively from July 1, 2026.
The Finance Department issued a Government Order on Thursday regarding the 2.25 percentage point increase under the 2024 Revised State Pay Scales. The revised rates will apply to full-time government employees, zilla panchayat staff, work-charged employees on regular scales, and full-time staff at universities and aided educational institutions.
Pensioners from aided educational institutions whose pensions are paid from the State’s Consolidated Fund will also benefit. The order covers retired employees under UGC, AICTE, and ICAR pay scales, though separate orders will be issued for serving employees under those scales and judicial officers under the NJPC pay scale.
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara stated that the enhancement aims to provide financial support amid a rising cost of living. He said the government is responsible for safeguarding the financial well-being and dignity of those who serve the state.
Arrears for the increase will be paid alongside the salary or pension for November 2026 and will not be disbursed before that month's regular payment.
