Delhi police head constable reunites 119 missing children with families

Head Constable Chanchal is eligible for an out-of-turn promotion after locating 119 children across several states in one year.

A Delhi Police head constable has located 119 missing children and returned them to their families over the last year, according to Rediff.

Head Constable Chanchal, who is posted at the Jaitpur police station in south-east Delhi, conducted these operations across seven to eight states. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Utkarsh said the children were traced between November last year and the present, with the youngest being approximately three years old.

Under the Delhi Police Standing Order 2024, personnel are eligible for an out-of-turn promotion if they find at least 80 missing children in a year, including 40 who are under the age of 14. Chanchal met these requirements by finding 119 children, 41 of whom were below 14 years of age.

Chanchal said her motivation came from seeing the distress of parents. She told ANI that as a mother to an eight-year-old daughter, she felt a connection to the suffering of the families.

The officer credited her station house officer, senior officers, and the DCP for providing the technical assistance and information necessary to track the children in states such as Bihar and Jharkhand.
