Eight more arrested for attacking BSF personnel in Tripura
The total number of arrests has reached 18 following a mob attack on Border Security Force personnel in Sepahijala district.
Police on Friday arrested eight more individuals in connection with an attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to Rediff. This brings the total number of arrests to 18.
The incident occurred on Monday near the Ashabari border outpost after personnel detained a person on suspicion of smuggling. A group of villagers allegedly attacked the BSF personnel, vandalised a vehicle, and attempted to snatch arms from the guards.
Three BSF personnel were injured in the assault, including an assistant commandant. One report identified the injured as Company Commander Rohit, who was taken to the Boxanagar Primary Health Centre for treatment.
Chief Minister Manik Saha reviewed the security situation on Thursday in a meeting attended by officials from the state administration, police, BSF, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Assam Rifles. Saha directed authorities to ensure strict legal action against those involved.
The Chief Minister described the assault as unacceptable and a matter of grave concern. He instructed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards cross-border smuggling and to strengthen security measures to maintain peace.
