Mamata Banerjee dares BJP to use bulldozers after attack on Abhishek Banerjee's home

The former West Bengal chief minister accused BJP-backed miscreants and police of targeting the Diamond Harbour MP's residence in the early hours.

Former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday condemned an attack on the Kalighat residence of Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee. According to the Deccan Herald, Banerjee alleged that BJP-backed miscreants and police personnel targeted the home in the early hours of the day.

Banerjee challenged the BJP to use its bulldozers against her, stating she would continue to protest against intimidation. She questioned why people were being attacked in their homes during the middle of the night and accused the BJP of using money and police machinery to target political opponents.

The MP, Abhishek Banerjee, described the incident as a life-threatening attack on X, claiming it followed two days of reconnaissance. He stated this was the seventh attempt on his life in the last six months and noted a lack of police or judicial intervention.

Banerjee also alleged that police imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which disrupted preparations for the annual Kali Puja at her home. She claimed a newly permitted puja on the main road obstructed access to her residence and inconvenienced residents.

The former chief minister accused the BJP of using hooliganism to disrupt local club activities and religious celebrations. She added that her party faces such hostility because of its membership in the I.N.D.I.A. alliance.

Banerjee warned that she might approach the Supreme Court regarding the alleged police excesses. She also appealed to her party workers to remain peaceful and avoid what she described as a trap set by the BJP.
