CIK raids six locations across Kashmir in terror recruitment probe

The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) searched several residential houses in connection with an alleged online module used to radicalise youth.

The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police searched six locations across the Kashmir valley on Friday. According to reports by Kashmir Observer and The Pioneer, the searches were conducted in relation to a terror recruitment case involving social media platforms.

The operations took place at residential houses in Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, and the Bijbehara and Mattan areas of Anantnag. These searches were carried out alongside revenue officials and local police, with executive magistrates present during the process.

Investigators searched the residence of 22-year-old Mohammad Yaseen Mir in Srinagar's Zainakote area and the home of Peerzada Anayat Ullah Shah in Magam, Budgam. Officials are also examining the background of Mir's family, noting that his mother, Tabasum Shaheen, a Pakistani national, has been in Pakistan since April 29 last year.

The investigation involves a case registered under FIR No. 07/2023 at the CIK Srinagar Police Station. It concerns an alleged recruitment module that used social media to radicalise youth for proscribed terrorist organisations.

Authorities suspect that individuals based in Pakistan, allegedly working with handlers from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and other banned outfits, used online platforms to instigate youth against the country's sovereignty and integrity. During the raids, investigators reportedly seized documents and digital devices to check for links with cross-border handlers.
