Guwahati prepares for Diwali and Kali Puja celebrations

Puja committees in the city are designing unique pandals to showcase the cultural heritage of Assam during the upcoming festivals.

Preparations are underway across Guwahati to celebrate Diwali and Kali Puja, with various committees creating themed pandals, according to ANI.

The Vivekananda Sporting Club of Colony Bazar, Kalapahar, has designed its pandal on the theme 'Colour of Soil – Tea, Bamboo & Rang Ghar'. The structure aims to showcase Assam tea, the historic Rang Ghar of the Ahom dynasty, and the one-horned rhinoceros.

Sashanka Chakraborty, an official of the Vivekananda Sporting Club, said the club is celebrating its 62nd year of Kali Puja festivities. He stated that the theme was chosen because Assam tea has completed 200 years.

Chakraborty said approximately 1,500 bamboo poles were used to construct the pandal. He also claimed that their celebration is the biggest Kali Puja in the North East region, attracting thousands of devotees annually.

Organisers and artisans across the city are currently adding final touches to pandals using lighting and bamboo craftsmanship as the festival approaches.
