Guwahati prepares for Diwali and Kali Puja celebrations

Puja committees in the city are creating unique themes for their pandals to celebrate the upcoming festivals.

Preparations are underway across Guwahati to celebrate Diwali and Kali Puja, according to ANI. Various puja committees are currently designing unique and culturally rich themes for their pandals.

The Vivekananda Sporting Club of Colony Bazar, Kalapahar, has designed its pandal on the theme "Colour of Soil – Tea, Bamboo & Rang Ghar". The structure aims to showcase the heritage of Assam, including the bicentenary of Assam tea, the historic Rang Ghar of the Ahom dynasty, and the one-horned rhinoceros.

Sashanka Chakraborty, an official of the Vivekananda Sporting Club, told ANI that the club is celebrating its 62nd year of Kali Puja festivities. He said that around 1,500 bamboo poles were used to construct the pandal.

Chakraborty claimed that their celebration marks the biggest Kali Puja in the North East region, which draws thousands of devotees every year. Organisers across Guwahati are currently adding final touches to their pandals with lighting and bamboo craftsmanship.
