Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary sparks row over crime remarks in Delhi

The Chief Minister claimed that while crime may exist in the state, there is no 'aparadh' or offence.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has triggered a political controversy after stating that although crime may exist in Bihar, there is no 'aparadh' (offence). The remarks were made on Tuesday during an event in New Delhi to sign an agreement between the Bihar government and the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

According to The New Indian Express, Choudhary told the gathering that the concept of crime has been eliminated in the state. He added that there are no criminals and noted that water management remains a major challenge for Bihar's progress. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was also present at the event.

The Chief Minister's comments, which went viral on social media, drew sharp criticism from the Opposition. Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, attacked Choudhary on X, referring to him as a person accused of seven murders.

Yadav questioned whether the IAS and IPS officers present at the event felt honoured or insulted by the remarks. He further alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appointed Choudhary to destroy the state.

The controversy follows other recent political tensions in Bihar, including criticism from Tejashwi Yadav regarding remarks made by Bageshwar Dham head Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri about religious figures.
