Cyclone Arnab causes ₹13.10 crore revenue loss for APSRTC

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation cancelled over 10.73 lakh scheduled kilometres of bus services due to adverse weather.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) lost ₹13.10 crore in revenue due to Cyclone Arnab, according to The Hindu. The cyclone affected parts of Andhra Pradesh between October 27 and 29.

APSRTC Chief Traffic Manager (Operations) John Sudhakar said the corporation cancelled more than 10.73 lakh scheduled bus kilometres because of heavy rainfall, strong winds and unsafe road conditions.

The weather also damaged four APSRTC vehicles and various infrastructure. Reported damage includes collapsed compound walls at the Ravulapalem and Jaggampeta locations, and damaged walls at the Machilipatnam and Maddilapalem depots.

Other infrastructure affected includes roof sheets at the Amalapuram garage, a lighting tower at the Kakinada depot, and electrical installations at the Bhimavaram depot. Damage was also noted at the Tuni garage, Waltair depot and the District Public Transport Officer’s office in Krishna district.

Mr. Sudhakar stated that the corporation is currently assessing the damage to determine the total repair expenditure.

Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy reviewed preparedness for Cyclone Murusu on Tuesday. He instructed officials to suspend services when necessary and to restore them once conditions are safe.
