Supreme Court allows green crackers in Delhi-NCR for two days

The court permitted the use of certified green crackers on November 7 and 8 before a full ban resumes.

The Supreme Court has permitted the use of certified green crackers in Delhi-NCR for two days during the Diwali period. According to reports by Urban Acres and Deccan Herald, the relaxation applies only to November 7 and November 8, with a complete ban resuming on November 9.

The court order specifies that only green crackers approved by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) are allowed. The bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale noted that the matter concerns every living being.

On November 7, bursting is permitted from 6 am to 8 pm, while on November 8, the window is between 7 am and 10 pm. Fireworks remain strictly prohibited within 300 metres of hospitals, old-age homes, educational institutions, and notified silence zones.

The court has banned the sale of online crackers and prohibited products containing barium, series-joined crackers, or garlands. Each box of approved crackers must feature a specific QR code disclosing manufacturer and registration details. To facilitate sales, the licences of certain firecracker traders have been temporarily restored from November 4 to 6.

Authorities have been instructed to monitor compliance, check vehicles entering the region, and prevent the supply of illegal crackers. The Central Pollution Control Board and State Pollution Control Boards will monitor air quality and prepare reports for the pre-Diwali, Diwali, and post-Diwali periods.
