ED summons former minister C Vijayabaskar and wife in assets case

The Enforcement Directorate has issued second summons to the former health minister and his wife regarding an alleged Rs 35.79 crore case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a second round of summons to former health minister C Vijayabaskar and his wife, V Ramya, for questioning in Chennai, according to The New Indian Express and South First.

Vijayabaskar, who is the TVK Pudukkottai district organisational secretary, has been asked to appear at the agency's zonal office on Friday, 6 November. His wife has been summoned for questioning next week.

The agency is conducting a money laundering probe into assets Vijayabaskar allegedly acquired while serving as the health and family welfare department minister in the AIADMK government from 2016 to 2021.

The investigation follows a case filed by the DVAC, which led to the ED registering an ECIR in 2021. In a charge sheet filed in May 2023, the DVAC alleged the disproportionate assets were worth Rs 35.79 crore.

Both Vijayabaskar and Ramya previously appeared for questioning in 2024, during which their statements were recorded. The ED also conducted searches at Vijayabaskar's residence in Illuppur, Pudukkottai district, on 21 March 2024.
