Anshul Kamboj performs well in series opener against New Zealand
The Haryana seamer used relentless lengths and increased pace to help India in the match at Auckland.
Haryana bowler Anshul Kamboj delivered an incisive performance against New Zealand in the series opener at Auckland, according to the Times of India. The 25-year-old right-arm seamer used sharp wobble seam and speeds to take wickets, including Mitchell Santner and Nathan Smith in consecutive overs.
Kamboj recorded figures of 5-1-12-0 in his first spell. After a break when Axar Patel was introduced, Kamboj increased his speed to nearly 140 kmph in his second spell to help take wickets.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Kamboj said that preparing well gives confidence and ensures there are no surprises in a match. He added that he does not pay attention to outside talk and noted that dimensions were different at the venue but it did not matter with help off the pitch.
The bowler's performance follows previous forgettable outings in international cricket. India captain Shubman Gill had previously backed the quick, stating that Kamboj and Auqib Nabi would remain in the mix and noting that Kamboj can bat at number 8.
The management had continued to believe in the bowler's abilities following the Manchester Test and the Guwahati ODI against West Indies.
