Arshdeep Singh joins Srinath and Shami in elite list of Indian pacers

The left-arm bowler took four wickets as India restricted New Zealand to 185 in the first ODI at Auckland.

Arshdeep Singh became the third Indian fast bowler to claim a four-wicket haul in New Zealand during the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, according to ANI and Times of India.

The pacer finished his 10 overs with figures of 4/70, dismissing Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Kyle Jamieson, and Glenn Phillips to help restrict the hosts to 185 runs.

His performance is the fourth-best bowling spell by an Indian pacer in New Zealand. Javagal Srinath holds the top two spots with figures of 4/23 in Auckland in 2003 and 4/52 in Napier in 1995, while Mohammed Shami is third with 4/55 in Napier in 2014.

Arshdeep noted that the surface offered good purchase and the wind assisted the bowlers. He explained that the team used short-pitched deliveries to exploit the seam and the conditions.

The bowler expressed disappointment at missing a fifth wicket, stating his favourite would have been that final scalp. He also dedicated his dance celebration after dismissing Jamieson to his girlfriend, Samreen Kaur.

In the same match, Gurnoor Brar took 3/44 and Anshul Kamboj took 2/22 to support the bowling attack in the opening game of the five-match series.
