Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, a 17-year-old from Coimbatore ranked 669, upset eighth seed and world number 115 Katarzyna Kawa. The Polish player, aged 33, was defeated 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5) in a match lasting two hours and 27 minutes.
Vaishnavi Adkar, a 21-year-old from Maharashtra, overcame Britain's Jodie Burrage 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Adkar, who entered the WTA 250 event as India's best player, won the match in two hours and 46 minutes.
During the match against Burrage, the former world number 85 took a 5-3 lead in the deciding set. However, Adkar won four consecutive games to secure the win. Burrage required a medical timeout before the final game as humidity affected her.
Former doubles world number 1 Rohan Bopanna, who coaches at the academy where Adkar trains, was present to watch the match. Bopanna was heard encouraging Adkar to maintain pressure on Burrage during the contest.
