Mustafizur Rahman to make Big Bash League debut with Melbourne Renegades

The Bangladesh left-arm pacer joins the team as a replacement for Jason Behrendorff, who is sidelined by a shoulder injury.

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut after signing with the Melbourne Renegades, according to ANI.

The 31-year-old joins the squad as a replacement for Jason Behrendorff, who cannot play any more games this season because of a shoulder injury. Mustafizur has played 331 T20 matches globally and taken 423 wickets, though he has not played in the BBL before.

The pacer will miss the Renegades' first match against the Perth Scorchers in Chennai because of his ILT20 commitments. He is expected to play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on January 1 against the Sydney Sixers and on January 4 against the Melbourne Stars.

Renegades coach Luke Ronchi said Mustafizur is a proven match-winner who can take wickets during the powerplay and at the death. The squad also includes international players Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell.

Mustafizur said in a club statement that he is looking forward to his first BBL season and playing at the MCG as his home ground.
