Explosion damages railway track near India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan

Authorities suspended train services on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh route after a blast damaged concrete pillars and created a crater.

An explosion damaged a railway track in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district near the India-Pakistan international border late on Tuesday, according to News18, The Pioneer and India TV. The blast occurred near 50 GB village on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway line under the jurisdiction of the Ramsinghpur police station.

The explosion damaged two concrete pillars supporting the track and a few railway sleepers, leaving a crater nearly two feet deep. The incident took place approximately 45 minutes after a passenger train travelling from Anupgarh to Suratgarh passed through the area at around 9 pm. No casualties were reported.

Security agencies, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a dog squad, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), reached the site to investigate. A team of security personnel arrived at the location around 2 am to examine the scene and collect samples.

Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar said it was too early to ascertain the exact nature of the incident and that it would be premature to conclude if it was an explosion or something else. He stated there is no established link with the 7.5 kg of RDX recently recovered in the border region.

North Western Railway suspended train services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh as a precautionary measure. Investigators are examining whether the track was deliberately targeted.
