Ayushmann Khurrana receives extortion call from Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimant
Police are investigating an audio clip in which a person claiming to be part of the gang demanded crores of rupees.
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly received an extortion call from an individual claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, according to reports by The Times of India and The Assam Tribune. The caller allegedly demanded crores of rupees from the actor.
Mumbai Police are currently investigating the matter. Officials are working to verify the caller's identity by comparing the audio with voice samples from existing police records, while the cyber cell attempts to trace the location and number used to send the message.
This incident follows a similar threat received by actor Tusshar Kapoor, who was sent an audio message by a person identifying as 'Harry Boxer'. In that case, the Crime Branch's technical team found that the voice did not match official samples of Boxer, leading to suspicions that the caller may have been impersonating a gang member to extort money.
The threats follow a firing incident on October 18 involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai's Juhu area. While Shroff was unhurt, his driver and a passerby sustained injuries. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for that attack, and police have named jailed gangster Bishnoi's aide, Anil Pandit, as a wanted accused.
Security concerns have increased across the film industry. Actor Ronit Roy told NDTV that more celebrities are seeking enhanced protection as a preventive measure. Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan was also noted taking extra precautions during his recent appearance outside his residence.
