Singer Kanika Kapoor announces separation from husband Gautam Hathiramani
The playback singer requested privacy and kindness from her followers following the announcement of her split from the London-based businessman.
Playback singer Kanika Kapoor announced her separation from her husband, businessman Gautam Hathiramani, on Tuesday, according to reports by Hindustan Times, The Indian Express and ANI. The singer shared the news via an Instagram statement, requesting privacy and kindness from her friends, family and followers as they move forward.
In her post, Kapoor said that after much thought and consideration, she and her husband were going their separate ways. She stated she was grateful for the time they shared and wished him well for the future. She did not disclose the reasons behind the separation.
Kapoor, who is 48, married Hathiramani in an intimate ceremony in London on May 20, 2022. The couple had reportedly been friends for nearly 15 years before their relationship turned romantic. Hathiramani is based in Lagos for work.
Addressing rumours regarding her reluctance to move to Lagos, Kapoor said it was not true that she did not want to stay there. She noted that when a marriage falls apart, it is unfair that the woman is often the first to be blamed. She added that she has not found anyone else and, to her knowledge, neither has Hathiramani.
This is Kapoor's second marriage. She was previously married to Raj Chandok, with whom she has three children: daughters Aayana and Samara, and son Yuvraaj. The singer and Chandok separated in 2012.
Kapoor rose to fame with hits such as 'Baby Doll' and 'Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan'. She expressed hope that her future interactions with Hathiramani would remain amicable.
