Owaisi uses US Senate victory of Abdul El-Sayed to target UP rivals
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi called on Muslims in Uttar Pradesh to strengthen their political identity following a Democrat's win in Michigan.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday celebrated the victory of Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the US Senate election in Michigan. According to India Today, Owaisi used the win to urge Muslims in Uttar Pradesh to strengthen their political identity ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
El-Sayed, a 42-year-old former public health official and son of Egyptian immigrants, defeated Republican Mike Rogers in the November 3 midterm elections. His victory makes him the first Muslim elected to the US Senate.
Owaisi posted on X that one Abdul has won in Michigan and that the Abdul in Uttar Pradesh must now show they are subservient to none but Allah. He stated that they will no longer lay carpets.
The AIMIM leader used the metaphor to attack the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, whom he has accused of using the Muslim vote bank without providing leadership opportunities. During an October 18 rally in Rampur district, Owaisi said Muslims should produce their own political leaders.
In a rally in Kairana on October 25, Owaisi also targeted SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, suggesting the party name should be changed to Samajwadi Yadav Parivar, according to ANI.
During the US campaign, Republican candidate Mike Rogers accused El-Sayed of links to the Muslim Brotherhood, an allegation El-Sayed denied. US President Donald Trump also targeted El-Sayed at a rally in Michigan, calling him a "jihadist."
