Star Health issues health advisory for coastal Andhra Pradesh after cyclones
The insurer is urging families to seek medical advice early as standing water and disrupted sanitation pose health risks.
Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited has issued a health advisory for families in coastal Andhra Pradesh following two successive cyclones, Arnab and Murasu. According to the Deccan Chronicle, the storms have caused heavy rain, waterlogging, and disruptions to power and transport across several districts.
The affected areas include Prakasam, Nellore, Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, Palnadu, NTR, East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, and Srikakulam. The insurer noted that standing water and disrupted sanitation are the primary health concerns in the region.
Srinivas KBB, Business Head of Andhra Pradesh at Star Health Insurance, said that families often wait out fevers that appear a week or two after water drains. He stated that roads often remain blocked and transport unreliable, making hospital visits difficult when advice is needed most.
The company advised households to drink boiled or chlorinated water, wash hands with soap after contact with floodwater, and clear stagnant water to prevent mosquitoes. They also recommended keeping regular medicines, prescriptions, and oral rehydration salts ready.
Star Health policyholders can access unlimited teleconsultations via the Talk to Star service between 8 am and 8 pm. Non-policyholders may also book a free Virtual Doctor Consultation on the Star Health app during the same hours.
